The meeting was called to order at 9:02 a.m.

C. Manuel, Protective & Social Services Director, presented Committee with an update on the current and projected activities planned throughout the service area:

  • Emergency Management (GPREP) - A call for members has gone out among City staff.
  • Other - The Coordinated Care Campus Initiative has been announced. An update will be provided on this at each PSS Committee meeting going forward. Notices have been sent to neighbouring businesses and residents. Citizens can visit engage.cityofgp.com to register for community engagement sessions; or contact carecampus@cityofgp.com, Chris Manuel, Wendy Hughes, or Katherine Schmidt for further information.

A. Sutherland, Community Social Development Manager, presented Committee with an Q1 update. Highlights include the Community Kitchen securing stable funding; establishment of the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee; the Youth Action Council's 2021 Action Plan; COVID supports; homelessness strategies; and Community Opioid Response.

C. Frizzell, Mobile Outreach Program Manager, presented Committee with a Q1 update. Highlights include a continuing response to community concerns related to the street engaged population; creation of a new dispatch/client database system; providing wrap around services; and regular proactive measures.

K. Kokesch, Enforcement Services Manager, presented Committee with a Q1 update. Highlights include the completion of the Vehicle for Hire bylaw; assistance with initiatives targeted at assisting vulnerable street engaged persons; and an update to equipment.

P. Bossen, Fire Chief, presented Committee with a Q1 update. Highlights include the development of an in-house Officer course for staff; and the Annual Awards & Recognition Ceremony.

Supt. S. Curry, Officer in Charge, presented Committee with a Q1 update. Highlights include creating a baseline for written contracts; and an increase in the number of media releases and public consultations & connections.

The Committee reviewed the Protective & Social Services Committee Outstanding Items List for May 25, 2021.
